Use Case

Cycle was contacted by a Fortune 100 to implement running Condor on a large installation of workstations and servers to perform financial risk calculations. Now growing to more than 4000 CPUs, this Condor pool uses CycleServer to manage job submission, user quotas and priority, configuration version control, usage graphing and reporting, and grid administration. Condor saves tremendous costs over proprietary software solutions, and offers functionality to get higher utilization/sharing of hardware resources.

About Condor
Condor: Innovative, Open-Source Grid Scheduler
Condor is an open-source scheduler started in 1988 at the University of Wisconsin to help schedule and execute compute intensive jobs. This openness, coupled with an innovative feature set not found in any other grid scheduler, such as Amazon EC2 machine and integrated virtual machine management, has created a growing list of users including many Fortune 100s, small businesses, universities, and government research organizations alike.

By distributing workloads among many workstations and servers, Condor enables tremendous speed-ups in executing computation. Condor supports running almost any type of application, including “parallel” jobs like MPI, Java programs, and VM containers to enable check pointing. Condor’s flexible language for configuring policies makes it easy to implement custom business logic for when and where jobs should run.
